Projection LDV

How it works:

Using an image projection technique, it is possible to create a Doppler velocimeter which has no fixed working distance. The measurement “fringes” are created by passing a laser beam through an optical mask. The image of the mask is delivered throughout the length of the laser beam which is directed through the path of any passing object.

The Projection LDV developed by Laser Dynamics brings revolutionary change to the field of enhanced measurement technology. The sensor greatly expands the application of lasers in velocity measurement for scientific and industrial uses. The unique formation of the measurement fringes by image manipulation as opposed to interference greatly enhances the capability to previously unattainable levels.

General applications include:

  • transverse and short range LIDAR
  • liquid level monitoring
  • mass flow velocimetry
  • range independent velocimetry
  • monitoring of vehicle velocity and slip
  • monitoring velocity of continuous sheet, wire or thread production systems
  • rail track monitoring
  • explosion wave-front monitor

Application examples:

  • Automotive:
    • precision speed measurement at any time
    • instant slip and drift sensing for ABS/suspension control
  • Aviation
    • engine monitoring
    • wind shear detection
    • landing aids
    • precision altimetry
    • ground speed monitoring
  • Railways
    • precision speed measurement at any time
    • wheel and track surveying detecting hairline cracks at any speed

  • Industry
    • materials handling
    • flow monitoring
    • process control
  • Energy
